There is a new (which is actually not-so-new) craze in the world of digital photography. It is called the panograph, or panography. No, not "pornography!" Panography is the method of taking multiple shots of a scene and stitching them together as the eye would see a a scene in real life. Usually, a more creative touch is added, though, as the images are overlayed on each other by overlapping the edges. The end results are amazing. I have seen one photographer in particular in a magazine who did multiple (hundreds) of shots of trees from top to bottom--something which could never be captured by a single shot. The end results are dreamy visions, almost surreal images.
I stumbled across an excellent tutorial on how to make one in Photoshop here. I am going to try to make one myself when I get some time. I have some good panoramics from the Smokies I'd like to piece together.
In the meantime, check out the Flickr pool dedicated to panography here.
