New Photos Online

Hey everyone. We have lots of new photos out on Flickr. Be sure to check them out.

Also, next Saturday, May 5th, a global Flickr Community event called "24 Hours of Flickr" will be taking place. It is a day for all Flickr members to chronicle their day in photos, however they want--of whatever they want. I will be participating, and taking photos of whatever I do that day. It is a more scaled-down version of the 365-Project. The best of the best will be featured in a print book later this year. It should be a blast. Be sure to check back as the blog will be updated with lots of good stuff.

San Francisco/Yosemite Photos on Flickr

In 2002, my boss and I flew out to San Francisco to visit a website vendor of ours, Netopia. While we were there, we had the chance to do some sightseeing. We drove three hours from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park, and spent about a day there checking things out. I wanted to get these photos on my Flickr site, because I have some very dramatic images of the Bay and the National Park. Three of these images are in our living room framed on the wall.

These aren't the best quality photos--they were originally 35mm and I had the negatives scanned to a Kodak Photo CD, and cleaned them up in Photoshop. However, if you ever need negatives scanned to digital, take them to Meijer--it was only $5.

See the photos on Flickr here.

Where I Host the Photos

As many of you may have noticed, I use Flickr for all my photo management. I simply have a pod on the blog which pulls in the three latest images uploaded. Some of you know I used to host my own PhotoBlog (http://lsmith.zapto.org/photoblog), but that quickly got way too cumbersome to manage. And, because my server is so incredibly slow, it just took way too long to load pics.

I use Flickr because A) It's cheap ($24.95 a year) and B) It's fun and easy to use. Flickr has their own mass upload utilities, they're very easy to move photos and put into sets, and let's not forget tagging photos!

If you don't have a manageable, fast, photoblog application, I highly suggest Flickr. Try it at http://www.flickr.com.
